Kelsey Plum Leaving Under Armour

Under Armour’s basketball division continues to shrink. Sure, De’Aaron Fox just debuted his third signature sneaker, which is no longer under the Curry Brand after Steph and his eponymous brand have left their agreement with UA. Their next biggest star, WNBA player Kelsey Plum, has officially left the brand and is now a sneaker free agent.

In a report from BR Kicks, Under Armour finally made a comment on the long-rumored departure of Plum from their brand, stating, "We appreciate the partnership we've had with Kelsey and everything she's contributed. As we sharpen our focus and build for what's next, we're moving in different directions. We wish her the best."

Over the winter, Plum was spotted playing in the Unrivaled league in adidas sneakers, causing speculation that she was no longer with Under Armour. When asked about the reasoning for Kelsey forgoing UA sneakers in Unrivaled, the brand told Front Office Sports, “We were recently made aware of an issue impacting Kelsey's training and performance. We are working closely with her and her team on a solution to support her needs."

That support never came, and she never laced up a pair of Under Armour kicks again in public. During FIBA Women’s World Cup Qualifying matches in Puerto Rico, she was wearing Under Armour sneakers, and just the other day, Plum was spotted rocking a Fear of God Athletics hoodie and a pair of adidas Adistar Control 5s.

Now that Plum has left Under Armour, she’ll be free to pursue a sneaker deal with another brand, and considering she’s been rocking The Three Stripes over the last few months, it’s safe to say that’s a top choice for her. We’ll have to wait and see where she ends up. To keep updated on Plum’s sneaker free agency and more in the sneaker and streetwear world, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
