Justin Saunders and the Montreal-based tonal obsessives at JJJJound have created a vaunted legacy based on simple, clean, accessible designs. After bringing classic colorways in premium materials and limited numbers to brands across the industry, JJJJound’s work with New Balance has always been the best of the bunch, taking the tradition of the 99x line and bringing out the kind of elevated basics that New Balance collectors go crazy for.
The latest JJJJound x New Balance collaboration is a pair of 990v4s in shades of brown suede and mesh with cream-colored accents throughout. So far, we’ve only seen one preview picture of the upcoming pair from JJJJound on Instagram, but from the lateral side view, we can see dusty brown suede on the toe, side, and heel panels, with perforated support panels in a darker brown, and more chocolate brown on the mesh throughout. There are a couple of silver hits on the heel stabilizer and heel tab, with cream laces and a two-tone white and cream midsole. Finally, a black “N” logo on the side panel adds a bit of dark contrast.
Throughout its years-long partnership with New Balance, JJJJound has dropped a handful of 990v3 colorways, a 991, 993s, and a run of Gore-Tex 2002Rs, but the deep navy 990v4 collab from 2021 is definitely a stand-out of the collection, so it's nice to see the brand revisit the v4 silhouette once again. JJJJound dropped a 993 at the beginning of the year, and we’re all still waiting on the second colorway to hit shelves as teasers continue to pile up. However, the brand has spent most of 2025 away from New Balance, working with Asics, Puma, Salomon, and Vans.
JJJJound's latest New Balance 990v4 collab is dropping via a pre-order. On December 12, the window will open to reserve a pair, with each one made-to-order. Payment will be taken right away, and shipping is expected in Fall 2026. To get an alert as soon as the pre-order opens, download the Sole Retriever mobile app.
