Legendary Japanese designer Issey Miyake’s MDS (Miyake Design Studio) and Japanese sportswear brand Asics are joining forces for a new collaborative project called Issey Miyake Foot, established to craft new footwear models inspired by the intersection of design and function. For its debut release, the Issey Miyake Foot label introduces the Asics Hyper Taping, an all-new silhouette inspired by athletic taping and the Asics stripe logo.

The Issey Miyake x Asics Hyper Taping Pack features three colorways of the low-profile silhouette: Green, Black, and Grey, all featuring a repurposed wrestling shoe sole, a mix of leather and mesh on the upper, and a taping strap system across the tongue that takes the shape of the Asics stripe logo.

“The ASICS Stripes was originally designed not only as a visual element but also to enhance structural strength and improve fit,” the MDS team wrote about the silhouette. “Inspired by this integration of function, structure, and design, MDS conceived the concept of ‘taping,’ which stabilizes the body and supports movement. ‘Hyper taping’ incorporates this concept into its form through the combined knowledge and experience of both teams, elevating it into a new design expression.”
