The Heart of The Cards: A History of Yu-Gi-Oh! Footwear Collabs

“It’s time to d-d-duel!” The iconic Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise spans manga, several anime series, and a trading card game, but we’ve also seen Yu-Gi-Oh! come to life thanks to footwear collabs. After a highly anticipated release of the Nike Air Muscle, a remixed version of the Air Max 95 worn by series mainstay Joey, the franchise is moving in a cozier direction with a collaboration with Crocs.

The four pack brings two of the series’ biggest rivals in Yugi Motou and Seto Kaiba, and two of their signature cards, the Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes White Dragon, respectively. Sorry, Joey, you had your moment. The four pairs of Crocs are expected to launch on September 10, 2026. Ahead of the release, we’re taking a look back at the history of Yu-Gi-Oh!’s sneaker collabs.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x SuperGroupies - 2017-2026

Yu-Gi-Oh!’s first foray into the world of footwear was a collaboration with Japanese brand SuperGroupies in 2017. The Japanese streetwear brand is all about the anime aesthetic, and up until that point, Yu-Gi-Oh! was untapped grounds for swag. The initial collaboration featured a two-pack of sneakers tied to Yugi and Kaiba. The black pair features a pair of buckles across the laces, akin to Yugi’s penchant for strapped footwear. The second pair for Kaiba goes for a clean white look with black accents on the tongue, like the black clothes Kaiba wears under his trademark trenchcoat/vest, and red accents like the lining of his coat.

The collaboration with SuperGroupies continues to this day, with a new collab that was shipped out in August 2026 for those who pre-ordered that faithfully recreates Yugi and Kaiba’s boots. Yugi’s boots include studs across the midfoot and heel, with a Millennium Puzzle charm attached to the strap. Kaiba’s footwear is noticeably taller, with navy blue straps anchoring the simple black leather boot.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x adidas ADI2000 Collection - 2022-2023

Yugi and crew linked up with The Three Stripes from 2022 to 2023, which included multiple colorways of the Y2K-inspired ADI2000. The Blue-Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician, released in 2022, show up on two separate colorways featuring clean white bases with the corresponding character graphics on the lateral side, with accents that match the monster’s key colors.

A darker third pair of the collab representing Yami Yugi was released in 2023, going for a dark look with golden highlights on the Three Stripes found on the side panels and the lace dubrae. A pop of pink lining the collar serves as a nod to his pink hair. These were an admirable first attempt, but ultimately forgotten after The Swoosh’s life point-draining attack that followed.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x adidas Reptossage Slides - 2022

Before Crocs got into the game, adidas offered up its own cozy Yu-Gi-Oh! slip-ons as a part of its initial collaboration. The classic Reptossage slide was remixed in two colorways with Yugi Motou and the Dark Magician on one pair, with a matching fuchsia footbed. The second pair stars Kaiba and his prized Blue-Eyes White Dragon across the strap, completed with icy blue accents.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x adidas Yu-Gi-Oh! Superstar Winged Dragon Ra - 2023

Each card duel in the anime series, the stakes rise higher as characters go from summoning dragons and magicians to full-blown gods. One of those gods got his chance to shine with the release of the Yu-Gi-Oh! x adidas Superstar Winged Dragon of Ra. The singular Superstar featured the golden bird-like dragon on the lateral side panel. In conjunction with the card’s golden coloration, the shimmering hue pops up on the Three Stripes, co-branded dubrae, and the silhouette’s signature shell toe for an opulent take on the franchise.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x Nike Air Muscle Pack - 2025

Early in the franchise’s manga run, Yugi’s best friend Joey is interested in a pair of the Air Muscle, a Nike Air Max 95 lookalike. In the manga, Joey has to undergo a series of trials to even purchase the sneaker, and then is subsequently robbed by the shady store owner. That portion of the manga was never adapted to the anime and was prior to the series’ shift to playing cards. Back then, the series was more focused on games of life and death, so to the wider audience without the knowledge of the sneaker’s backstory, it was a welcome nod to the crossover between sneaker and fandom cultures.

Bringing the Air Muscle to life, Nike released two colorways of the re-named Air Max 95. One takes inspiration from the pair that Joey wears in the anime, while the other, a Japanese-exclusive, was inspired by Jonouchi, Joey’s name in Japanese and a nod to the sneaker’s original appearance in the manga. The sneaker is one of the few pairs to feature a monster outside of the Dark Magician and Blue-Eyes, instead focusing on Joey’s favored Red-Eyes Black Dragon.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x Crocs Collection

For their next high-stakes duel, Yugi and the Dark Magician are once again taking on Kaiba and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, but this time the fate of coziness is at stake. Crocs is taking the iconic anime, summoning it in sports mode with 4 pairs of Yu-Gi-Oh! themed Crocs. The two human characters have their visage transformed into the Crocs Classic Clog, while the monsters are remixed into the Crocs Echo Clog. Included in limited numbers with the collection is a Crocodile card that reimagines the Crocs mascot as its own Yu-Gi-Oh! Monster complete with Crocs on feet, of course.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x Crocs Classic Clog Yami Yugi

The Yami Yugi Crocs Classic Clog interpolates several of the series protagonist’s distinctive features into its look, including the deep shade of purple on the upper taken from his school uniform. Jagged yellow and red strips on the midsole match Yugi’s hair, which is unique even by anime standards. The sports mode strap on the heel even gets into duel mode as the studded look pulls from one of Yugi’s many matching accessories, be it his belt or choker. Speaking of chokers, it’s only right for Yugi’s ice to be represented front and center as his magical necklace, the Millennium Puzzle, pops up as Jibbitz on both shoes

Yu-Gi-Oh! x Crocs Classic Clog Seto Kaiba

Yugi’s rival, the ultra-rich creator of the Duel Disk, Seto Kaiba, gets a pair of Crocs Classic Clogs as well. Instead of the school uniform Kaiba appeared in early in the series, Crocs adapts Kaiba’s best outfit, featuring the studded long white vest/coat inspired by Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” video. The black upper of the clog is indicative of his mostly black outfit, with the midsole taking on the popped collar look of his coat with silver stud-like buttons on the heel. A blue sports mode strap recalls the many straps on the outfit. Another subtle touch is the lining of red found inside the upper and on the outsole, paying homage to the pop of red from Kaiba’s coat.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x Crocs Echo Clog Dark Magician

Yugi’s signature card, Dark Magician, gets represented on the bubbly Crocs Echo Clog with an all-over purple look featuring hieroglyphic graphics on the strap. Affixed to the body are Jibbitz detailing his pointed hat, spiral knee pads, and bright green staff. A subtle nod to the creature’s vibrant green eyes can be found on the button of the sports mode strap.

Yu-Gi-Oh! x Crocs Echo Clog Blue-Eyes White Dragon

Similarly, Kaiba’s featured creature, the iconic Blue-Eyes White Dragon, gets dressed in a light blue shade echoing the fierce dragon, albeit without the metallic hints. The spiked features on its face come attached as Jibbitz, while its wings come attached to the sports mode strap, which also comes with hieroglyphic print. The outsole breaks up the monochromatic look with a shade of white reflecting the beast’s shining body.
