While sneakerheads often keep the big names, like Nike or adidas, on their radar for releases, there are plenty of independent and smaller footwear brands that offer high-quality, wearable, and unique releases. A prime example of this is Cali-based label Collegium which has continued to release Italian-made pieces of footwear that transcend trends with timeless designs. After their previous collaborative efforts with everyone’s favorite online chat application Discord, the duo is back at it on a different silhouette as the Collegium Pillar Alpha Annex gets a Wumpus-inspired makeover.
Taking on a low-top construction, the collaborative sneaker utilizes various shades of purple that are directly pulled from Discord’s color palette (specifically from the mascot Wumpus) with its design inspired by Collegium’s very own Discord community. Premium suede details take over the mudguard, eyestays, vamp, and heel in a single shade of purple while stacked panels near the midfoot and heel tab take on a contrasting lighter shade of purple. These stacked panels not only add depth to the sneaker but are placed to represent the different interests and experiences each community member in Collegium’s discord brings to the table.
High-quality leather in white makes its mark on the toebox and quarter panel with the latter of the two locations also featuring a large piece of black leather. Stark white laces clash against the sail tongue while the black tongue tag above comes with split branding between Discord and Collegium on the right and left sneaker respectively. Further hits of Discord branding are found on the lateral heel with Wumpus and Discord’s logo embossed into the suede while we also find split branding details via the insoles. Rounding out the design is the sail midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The Discord x Collegium Pillar Alpha Annex is set to release via a free giveaway on Collegium’s Discord server on March 11th, 2023.
