Coco Gauff has quickly become a dominant force in tennis, both on and off the court. Following her remarkable U.S. Open victory and rise to be ranked number 2 globally, Gauff and New Balance are introducing the next chapter in her signature footwear line. The New Balance Coco CG2 is set to launch officially tomorrow, and fans in New York City will have the unique opportunity to explore Coco’s Court, a pop-up event on August 23-24 that will offer an immersive experience and exclusive shopping opportunities.
The Coco CG2 builds upon the foundation of Gauff’s debut signature shoe while introducing fresh design elements and enhanced performance features. Drawing inspiration from the classic New Balance 550, Gauff’s favorite silhouette, the Coco CG2 incorporates a woven tongue label that replaces the iconic basketball graphic with a tennis ball. The shoe also takes cues from Parisian architecture, featuring bold diamond-knit mesh on the collar, heel, and tongue and a triangular-patterned Ndure toe cap for added stability and flexibility. Suede overlays on the saddle give the shoe a versatile look, suitable for both the court and the streets. The launch colorway showcases a vibrant blend of oxidized blue and firefly hues inspired by the Statue of Liberty and the bright lights of New York City.
“I had as much fun designing and collaborating on the Coco CG2 as I did with the Coco CG1,” said Gauff, continuing, “My relationship with the New Balance team is incredible, and I’m excited to see what people think of the evolution of this shoe!”
Engineered for elite performance, the Coco CG2 is equipped with responsive Energy Arc technology, providing explosive energy return and stability for Gauff’s dynamic play style. The multi-density FuelCell midsole, enhanced by a carbon fiber plate, delivers superior comfort and a propulsive feel. Unique window details at the lateral heel and Ndurance outsole reveal the carbon fiber technology. Additionally, nods to numerology are woven into the design, with “power” and “grace” displayed on the back labels of the left and right shoes, respectively, reflecting the qualities Gauff embodies on the court.
“There is no shoe in tennis quite like the Coco CG2, just like there is no athlete quite like Coco Gauff. We’re so proud of what Coco has done for the game of tennis on and off the court and how she continues to fit perfectly into the New Balance family,” says Evan Zeder, New Balance Head of Tennis Sports Marketing. “We are so excited to continue to support her journey as both a person and an athlete.”
In addition to the launch colorway, New Balance will be hosting a special Coco's Court Pop-Up event that will take place from August 23-24 in NYC to coincide with the US Open. Fans can visit and purchase an exclusive pop-up colorway of the Coco CG2.
The New Balance Coco CG2 will debut in the Power and Grace colorway on August 21, 2024, through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. The retail price is set at $160 and $80 for women's and kid's sizing.
