Trends within the sneakerhead world come and go with models like the NMD and Ultraboost, which at one point were some of the most sought-after models on the market. Once their demand died down, you could easily find a pair at your local adidas Outlet or even online at a discounted price. This same effect is hitting various Jordan Brand models, taking us back to the days of retro silhouettes sitting in stores and being found for discounted prices online. Why is this happening?
Why Is Nike Discounting Air Jordan Sneakers?
Taking a look at the recent swings of the economy, the stimulus checks that hit many Americans’ bank accounts led to a bubble forming in the sneaker aftermarket. This, on top of limited production caused by supply chain issues, caused pairs that today would not garner high demand to go for 2x their retail price on platforms like StockX, eBay, or GOAT. Now with supply chain issues somewhat sorted out, Nike and Jordan Brand have ramped up production for GR releases. In contrast, the economy recently has taken a downturn thanks to rapid inflation. Luxury items like sneakers will usually be the first items to be cut out of consumers' budgets once prices of essential items increase, causing many models to sit on shelves and even now going for a discounted price.
Where Can I Get Discounted Air Jordan Sneakers?
Currently, Nike is offering a discount exclusively to Nike Members (those that have an account on nike.com) up until September 30th. If you use the coupon code “FALL20,” you’ll be able to save 20% off various Nike silhouettes and even select Jordan Brand releases like the Air Jordan 12 “Stealth,” Air Jordan 1 “Heritage,” and the Air Jordan 13 “French Blue.” Aside from a direct discount courtesy of Nike, you can find some pairs of Jordan sneakers in certain sizes on the secondary market under the MSRP.
With the sneaker market reaching equilibrium, the next model or trend that garners high demand is up for debate. Maybe we’ll see the “hype” return to Nike Basketball or signature models from Jordan Brand athletes as players like Ja Morant and Jayson Tatum are set to receive models from each brand respectively.
