After adidas cut ties with Ye, FKA Kanye West, The Three Stripes pivoted and has enjoyed success post-Yeezy. Luckily, if they ever wanted to go back and retro adidas Yeezy sneakers, they have all the legal rights to do so, except for one silhouette in particular - the Yeezy Slide. Ye owns the design patent for the foam-injected slip-on, and as his independent Yeezy empire continues to expand with its reasonably-priced apparel and foam footwear, Yeezy is going back to retail storefronts. For the first time since his split with adidas, Ye will be selling product in a large chain retailer thanks to JD Sports.
Yeezy YS-01 Slides vs. adidas Yeezy Slides
The new Yeezy Slides are virtually identical to the ones that adidas was putting out in years prior, but without any reference to The Three Stripes. Comparisons between the old adidas Yeezy Slides and the YS-01 have shown that the two versions of the foam slides are also close in comfort, and there’s almost no difference between them. Ye first started selling the YS-01 silhouette on his website for $20, and today, they retail for $40, significantly cheaper than the $90 that adidas was charging. So far, there have been seven colorways of the YS-01 offered on the Yeezy website, including Chocolate, Blue, Grey, Cream, Brown, Tan, and Black.
One issue people have had with Yeezy’s YS-01 slides has nothing to do with the product itself, but the shipping times. Many people who ordered slides have waited upwards of 6 months to receive their product, and in most cases, it takes weeks to receive the product.
Considering Yeezy is now selling the YS-01 at JD Sports, maybe they’ve fixed their supply chain. JD Sports is also set to become the exclusive retail partner for Yeezy, so expect to see more footwear and potentially even apparel to land online and in-store.
