The Air Jordan 1 Triple Stack is the Culmination of Our Super-Stacked Obsession
Published
Air Jordan’s latest hybrid model doesn’t combine two shoes; it hits the copy and paste button on the bottom half of the Jordan 1, stacking three soles on top of each other for a sporty new take on a classic style.
Starting with a traditional Air Jordan 1 Low upper, the women’s exclusive Air Jordan 1 Low Triple Stack looks like a glitch in The Matrix, tripling up the midsole and outsole to create a flat platform shoe. For its debut, the silhouette dropped in three colorways: a UNC mix of light blue and white, Team Red, and a Sail color with a black Swoosh.
Platform shoes are nothing new. From boots to high heels, the history of footwear is full of brands doing their best to help everyone add an extra inch or two. These days, there are plenty of combat boots and high heels that will do the trick to fool your next Hinge date, but as far as trends go, the most popular way to turn 5’10” into 6’ is with a pair of super-stacked running shoes.
At Nike, silhouettes like the Vomero Premium and Pegasus Premium have taken the rocker sole with a massive foam stack to its highest level. The Vomero Premium adds nearly two full inches of soft cushion underfoot, creating a performance running shoe that isn’t marketed as a platform shoe, but serves the same purpose. And as more professionals who work on their feet all day, be it in the medical, retail, restaurant, or other service sectors, lean into the heavy cushioned running shoes, it makes sense that people would want a height boost on the rest of their shoes.
The Air Jordan 1 Triple Stack adds a new level to the platform trend, keeping the same look as the iconic Jordan 1 Low, but adding a viral-ready aesthetic that looks like it was printed off a Photoshop file. What do you think, should Nike give more classic silhouettes a triple-stack remix?
