Leading up to the New Year, footwear choices celebrating the Lunar New Year (and its Chinese Zodiac sign, the Year of the Rabbit) from brands across the globe have slowly been revealed over the last few weeks. However, Vans seemed to be skipping out on the celebration until images appeared of the Vans DIY Hi VLT LX “Year of the Rabbit.”
Seemingly fusing various Vans silhouettes into one, a patchwork construction made up of various materials, patterns, and added details that make this stand out from a standard pair of Vans. Mismatched panels are visible with the toebox, eyestays, and midfoot each getting a different material and design that pops off the grey suede base layer, however, both pairs feature fuzzy hair details on random portions of the upper. Another similarity between the two sneakers is the random patches of Vans branding added as well as the rope tied to look like bunny ears. Underfoot sits a white vulcanized rubber midsole paired with a gum rubber outsole.
The Vans DIY Hi VLT LX Year of the Rabbit is set to release on January 1st, 2023 through Vans and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is currently TBA.
