United Airlines is Offering Employees an adidas Samba Collab to Celebrate 100th Anniversary

The Wright Brothers' original flight in 1903 would quickly spawn a new mode of transportation, and within a few decades, there were commercial airlines ready to take passengers and packages across the United States and the globe. 100 years ago to the day, one of the largest airlines still operating today, United, was founded, and the company got in on the celebration with a special collaboration on the adidas Samba for United employees.

“As we celebrate 100 years of flying, this collaboration with adidas felt like a meaningful way to celebrate both our history and the people behind it,” said Mark Muren, Managing Director of Product Marketing and Brand at United Airlines. “It’s a thoughtful nod to the journey we’ve taken – and the one ahead.”

The soccer-shoe-turned-fashion-icon is given a clean makeover that retains the classic look of an OG pair, but with United’s famous blue shade accenting throughout. There is still the grey suede T-toe, white leather base, tongue, and sockliner, as well as a dark gum outsole, but United appears via the company’s logo stamped on the lateral heel of the left shoe. The leather Three Stripes also undergo a blue makeover to match the logo and the heel counter. Finishing the design is the golden “100 Years” stamped on the lateral heel of the right shoe.
