Union and Jordan Brand's history dates back to 2018 with the LA brand’s take on the Air Jordan 1. After receiving much praise and subsequent hype, the duo later came together to release four colorways of the Air Jordan 4 over the course of 2020 and 2021. Now in what seems to be the year of the Air Jordan 2, Union was tasked with conveying the concept of a future utopia on the model, achieving it through their “Future Is Now” Capsule. As stated on Union’s website, “For the Future Is Now capsule we wanted to juxtapose what some futuristic gear might look like after it has been worn and patina’d. So often you see peoples vision of the future and is all [sic] crisp and sterile. We thought it might be fun to wear it in a little bit and make it organic.”
For the sneaker in the collection, Union dresses two Air Jordan 2 Retro’s in neutral shades of tan and grey with accenting blue and yellow details on the "Rattan" and "Grey Fog" pairs respectively. A mixture of canvas and suede construct the silhouette with hints of Union appearing on their iconic yellow tab placed underneath the eyelet and on the label located near the collar. The colorways are rounded out by the accenting midsole and outsole combo. Not only is the Air Jordan 2 getting this makeover, but so is the Jordan Crater Slide. Borrowing the same color palette and motifs from the AJ 2 "Grey Fog," the slip-on silhouette sits atop a crater foam midsole made from recycled materials.
If you’re looking to match head to toe with your new kicks, Union has you covered through their extensive apparel collection to go alongside this release. Various graphic tees with co-branded Union and Air Jordan details match and accent the footwear in the collection. The same is true of the socks, hoodies, jackets, sweatpants, crewnecks, and shorts. Conveying the theme of a worn-in look that the “Future Is Now” wants to achieve is the distressed hem and seams of the tees, hoodies, shorts, and sweatpants.
The entire Union x Jordan Brand Future Is Now Capsule is set to release through Union, Nike, and select retailers online and in-store with the Union release taking place on April 15th, 2022. The shoes will come in extended men's sizing and retail for $225, with the Rattan pair remaining exclusive to Union. As for clothing, the pricing has yet to be announced.
