When one thinks of New York, the Reebok Question Mid, famously worn by rival Philadelphia 76er Allen Iverson usually isn’t one of the things relating to the Big Apple. Tyrell Winston, a New York artist whose work is known for reusing trash found in the streets of NYC and creating art pieces out of them, has teamed up with Reebok to bridge the two together. His most notable pieces use flattened basketballs, so it’s no question combining a basketball shoe and New York was an easy task for Tyrell.
To convey New York, Tyrell chose to dress the sneaker with a simple white and black leather upper. The heel features faux fur, possibly giving a nod to NYC’s notable upper class and winter weather. Wrapping up from the icy blue outsole is the AI’s number 3 on the left and one of Tyrell's art works entitled “The Smell of Money”, his take on the interlocking NY logo used by the Yankees, on the right. Speaking on the outsole, Tyrell’s signature is featured underneath the icy blue translucent rubber.
It’s definitely easy to spot another sneaker that Tyrell may be drawing inspiration from, the Jordan 11 “Concord” which Iverson laced up during his college days playing at Georgetown. While one may think this is just a Reebok Question Mid “Concord,” this colorway has much more meaning than meets the eye, Tyrell thinks much deeper than that when constructing artwork and sneakers alike.
The Tyrell Winston x Reebok Question Mid New York is set to be released in 2022. It will drop at Reebok as well as select Reebok Classics retailers both in-store and online.
