Have you been as excited for Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey, as we have? It’s not a mind-bending original screenplay cooked up by one of the greatest directors of the 21st century, but it is the Oscar-winning director's adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey that dates back to the 8th Century BC. The star-studded cast already features the likes of Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and many, many more, but did you know Travis Scott also has a part in the story? Not only that, but he has an original song featuring singer James Blake playing in the credits.

If you were watching the AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos back in January, you spotted La Flame in the then-new TV spot for the film. It went viral online, and for good reason. Scott is definitely not an A-list actor, and in his limited roles on-screen, his performance has been… ok. So getting placed in such an epic story was a bit of a curveball for most.

Christopher Nolan’s Relationship with Travis Scott

The pairing of Christopher Nolan, director of films such as Oppenheimer, Memento, Interstellar, and rapper/designer Travis Scott, who really needs no introduction, sounds strange, no? Well, Scott actually teamed up with Nolan for an original song for the film Tenet, which Nolan described as the “final piece of a yearlong puzzle.” Travis, of course, put out merch to coincide with his placement in the film, so maybe we will see some new The Odyssey x Cactus Jack merch in the coming weeks?

As for his role as a bard in The Odyssey, Nolan has stated that this choice alludes to how the Odyssey has been retold through oral poetry. Scott, being a rapper, is somewhat of an orator himself, though really, his lyrics are not that deep. Boiling down the art of rapping, it is oral storytelling, so while it seems like a stretch, it’s a pretty great nod to modern-day oral poetry. Even still, that doesn’t excuse the fact that seeing Travis on screen will likely take you out of the movie, and that his acting chops really are not up to par for a Nolan film (at least in this author’s opinion).

Travis Scott and James Blake’s Song for The Odyssey

The official title of the end-credits song for The Odyssey by Travis Scott and James Blake is "When I'm Home.” So far, there have been no snippets made available, but the info comes from early press screenings.

You can catch The Odyssey in theaters starting July 17, 2026. If you can, try to see it in a large format, specifically IMAX 15/70MM, as the movie was shot entirely on IMAX 15/70MM film stock. It’s also the first and only movie so far to be shot entirely on IMAX film.

There are only 54 theaters across the globe that will show the film in this format, but find the closest one and make the trip. It’s seriously worth it. This is coming from someone who saw Interstellar and One Battle After Another in IMAX 15/70MM, and honestly, I don’t think I’ve had a more captivating movie-going experience.
