Tony Alva played a pivotal role in the history of both skateboarding and the success of Vans as his own imprint, Alva Skates, was a titan of the industry during its heyday and his work on the Vans Era had helped push the Cali-based footwear brand into the skating world. To celebrate both Vans and Alva’s deep history in the creative world, the duo have teamed up for a collaborative capsule that looks back on the last 40 years of the sport and introduces a brand new silhouette with the help of DJ Javier, KennyHoopla, and Vans team rider Bella Kensworthy.
For this three-piece footwear capsule, Vans and Tony created the Vans Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates which will come in “Brown Pink,” “Halo Multi,” and “Navy,” all of which feature unique graphics across the uppers. For the Brown Pink rendition, a leopard print covers the suede upper with the print broken up by an assortment of pink lines that mainly get featured near the tongue and tongue portions while the “Halo Multi” colorway comes with a gradient-like white and blue upper. “Alva” branding is written across the upper in black while the sole unit also borrows this shade. Finally, the “Navy” colorway comes constructed out of navy-shaded canvas and houses flower graphics embroidered through white stitching details. Underfoot the white sole unit denotes the Alva Skates connection with the brand's name written across the sidewall.
The Tony Alva x Vans 40th Anniversary Capsule is set to launch on January 12th, 2023 through Vans and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in unisex sizing, the retail price for the Vans Authentic 44 DX Alva Skates is currently TBA.
