The Nike Air Force 1 is no stranger to commemorating iconic moments and achievements in sports history. Previously, we’ve seen the Bruce Kilgore-designed silhouette pay homage to the New England Patriots, but now the AF1 in its Mid variant is returning to its basketball roots. Following the reveal of the AF1 Low that nods to the WNBA’s Houston Comets and their incredible 4-peat championship run from 1997-2000, the Nike Air Force 1 Mid is joining the celebration.
Much like the previously mentioned AF1 Low, this mid-top version of the sneaker features the Comets’ team colors as well as graphics nodding to their four championships. Leather takes over the entire sneaker, with obsidian shades landing across most of the upper. This blue shade is contrasted starkly by white hits on the Nike Air logo atop the tongue, the four-finger graphic near the lateral heel, and the piping of the midfoot’s Swoosh.
Our final bit of contrasting color gets featured on the lockdown strap and the Swoosh itself as red takes over the iconic logo. Additional details include embroidery on the heel that nods to the years the Comets won their four championships in a row (“‘97, ‘98” on the left sneaker and “‘99 ‘00” on the right). Finishing the design is a white midsole with red AIR text and a white outsole.
The Nike Air Force 1 Mid Houston Comets 4-Peat (W) will release this fall through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. The sneaker comes in women's sizing, with a retail price of $120.
