Nike SB continues to amplify voices within the skateboarding community, fostering inclusivity and individual expression through its diverse collaborations and inline release. This practice includes work with transgender skateboarder and SB team rider Leo Baker, who just received their first signature sneaker, and a partnership with FroSkate in 2022. On the SB Dunk Low, Nike SB is teaming up with THERE Skateboards, a Californian skate team and brand known for its inclusive ethos. Founded by Jeffery Cheung, THERE Skateboards is not exclusively LGBTQIA+, but it has played a pivotal role in championing self-expression and the visibility of underrepresented groups within skate culture.
THERE Skateboards' Nike SB Dunk Low features a rich blend of materials, including nubuck, shaggy suede, and tumbled leather. The sneaker dons a predominantly black color scheme as a canvas for hand-doodled graphics adorning the overlays. These unique illustrations are present in many of Cheung and THERE skateboard's work. They embody the spirit of self-expression that both THERE Skateboards and Nike SB uphold. Accents of green breathe life into the design through the tumbled leather Swoosh and a striking houndstooth pattern on the laces. The heel tab proudly showcases THERE's logo in a hand-drawn style, mirroring the artistic flair of the sneaker's design. Moving on down the silhouette, a black rubber midsole is paired with green outsole that has some of THERE Skateboard's signature illustrations. Finishing things off, a pair of silver dubraes depict the illustrated people that Cheung is known for are affixed to each shoes laces.
