Made in collaboration with the Serena Williams Design Crew.
In 2019, tennis superstar and long-time Swoosh collaborator Serena Williams took the wraps off the SWDC. Standing for the Serena Williams Design Crew, the collective was made up of some of the world's most creative designers and thinkers, and were tasked to come up with some of Williams' collections with the American sportswear company. After checking out the SWDC x Nike Air More Uptempo Denim earlier this week, we're now taking our first look at the talented teams next project with the SWDC x Nike Air Max 90 Futura "Hemp." Taking on the Tinker Hatfield silhouette's deconstructed counterpart, make sure you read on to find out everything that we know so far.
Taking the '90s icon to another dimension, SWDC's rendition of the Air Max 90 Futura is unlike anything that we've seen before. Working on top of a sanddrift suede base, hemp-hued overlays wrap around the entire upper, complete with abstract rubber elements that nod to the Centre Pompidou in Paris, of which this model was originally inspired by. Stitching makes its way throughout the entire shoe for an avant-garde aesthetic, and a crisp summit white leather Swoosh shoots through the lateral and medial sidewalls, followed by a much smaller one in space purple. Of course, you can't talk about this sneaker without bringing up the tongue which seems to be crafted from a corduroy-like material. A series of inspirational messages can be found right here, and to round it all off, pull tabs on the tongue and heel offer up a rugged look that's sure to turn heads wherever you go.
As you might have already expected, the SWDC x Nike Air Max 90 Futura Hemp W will release exclusively in women's sizes on February 1st, 2023. Retailing for $150, it will be available via Nike, the SNKRS app, and select retailers online and in physical locations.
