With the New Balance hype at an all-time high thanks to spot-on collaborations and high demand for models such as the 2002R, 550, and 99X series, the Boston-based brand is looking to dig into the archives. We’ve already seen the newest iteration of the 580, the v2, in Orange and White Green Yellow, but now New Balance is tapping one of their long-time collaborators, Stray Rats, to revive the classic New Balance MT580 in its “TRUE FORM” according to Stray Rats founder Julian Consuegra.
Initially teased on Instagram via Consuegra, the two colors showcased come in the same mesh and suede construction with plastic utilized on the midsoles Rollbar and through an overlay located around the collar. Various shades of green, blue, and pink take over the left pair while the right comes in burgundy red, yellow, purple, and green. Stray Rats makes an appearance on the lace dubrae while New Balance branding can be found on the 580 tongue tag and midfoot's N logo. Laces burst off the tongue, coming in an accenting shade that borrows from the sockliners color palette while the midsole and outsole get dressed in tonal colors that match various panels on the upper.
The Stray Rats x New Balance MT580 Pack released October 19, 2022 in-store via Varsity (Los Angeles), and Lower East Coast (Miami). An online raffle via Stray Rats will occured on October 20 with a wider release following shortly thereafter. The two-pack will restock via New Balance on May 18, 2023. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $160.
