Collaborations across the sneaker industry often try to pull themes from various IPs and bring them to life through well-executed colorways and special packaging, however, some go the extra mile. A prime example of this is the upcoming SpongeBob x Sonra Proto 3 Pack which, unlike everyone’s favorite fry cook’s collab with Kyrie, utilizes material from actual pineapple on the two sneakers in the pack.
Coming in a “Pineapple Under The Sea” and “Two Gold Doubloons” colorway, both low-top sneakers feature monochromatic shades of gold/yellow that mimic both a pineapple and golden coins for each respective colorway. Aside from this, both sneakers come with perforated toeboxes, a graphic depicting the top of SpongeBob’s house on the tongue, and a button with SpongeBob on the heel. Tonal gold laces find a home on the gold doubloon pair while the pineapple-themed colorway features brown shades that match the sockliner’s shade. On the insole, another graphic depicting features from SpongeBob’s house comes with co-branded details between Sonra and Viacom. Rounding out the look is a white foam midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The SpongeBob x Sonra Proto 3 Pack is set to release on January 29th, 2023 through Sonra with the “Pineapple Under The Sea” pair limited to 200 pairs and the “Two Gold Doubloons” pair limited to 50. Releasing in men’s sizing, the pineapple-themed pair will retail for €310 (approx $336 USD) while the doubloon-themed colorway will only release in a pack containing both sneakers which retail for €600 (approx $651 USD).
