Smiley faces have become commonplace in our digital world, expressing feelings of happiness and joy through our screens. Though the design dates back to the 1950s, Franklin Loufrani’s design for the newspaper France-Soir in 1971 eventually led to the creation of The Smiley Company, a licensing company that has collaborated with the likes of Levi & Strauss Co. and more. In honor of the company's 50th Anniversary, Reebok is covering the Reebok Classic Leather Pump in Smiley faces.
With the help of graffiti artist Mr. André, the white leather upper of the Classic Leather Pump comes adorned with Smileys and splattered in shades of orange, pink, black, and yellow, though this isn’t apparent at first sight. The mosaic design is actually underneath the wear-away paint, eventually revealing the entire painting once worn. On the lateral sides midfoot, two pump buttons are covered in yellow with Reebok branding and a 50th Anniversary Smiley on the top and bottom respectively. More motifs dedicated to the anniversary are present on the tongue tag and insole and underfoot with a black Smiley split between both pairs white rubber outsoles. The look is rounded out by the white midsole.
The SMILEY x Reebok Classic Leather Pump is set to release on April 15th, 2022 exclusively through reebok.com. Coming in men's sizing, the retail price is set at $250.
