Shareef O'Neal Joins the Family Business with a Shaq Sneaker Collection

The NBA is full of second-generation hoopers. From Steph Curry to Dylan Harper, and nearly every team in between, the league is stacked with family, with some young stars already eclipsing their fathers’ stats and status. Shaq’s son Shareef O’Neal is also getting in where his pops fit in, but instead of the court, he’s taking his talent to the runway and the street.

The Shareef by Shaq Collection is the young designer’s first collection of footwear, dropping two luxury skate-inspired silhouettes under the family brand that brought his dad’s discount shoes to basketball fans everywhere. Arriving in an array of subtle and bright colors, the zip-up model is a personal tribute to Shareef’s past heart surgery and his family’s legacy.

Taking over as the Shaq brand’s Creative Director, Shareef’s unnamed zip-up shoe was made with a center-cut zipper to represent his surgical scar. A four-button shroud that fits over the tongue adds another double meaning, inspired by the four chambers of the heart and his dad’s four NBA championships.

The Shareef by Shaq Collection doesn’t have a release date yet, but with Shareef showing 10 colorways between the two pairs, expect more news soon.
