Footwear brands often bring pop culture references to their sneaker releases. While not all of these are directly licensed by the IP holder (a la the “Bart Simpson” colorway of the Nike SB Dunk Low), some brands will directly collaborate with the owner of the respective movie or show like the recent Stranger Things x Vans collab. Now, getting us ready to play for the Flint Tropics, Warner Bros. and Fila are coming together to honor the cult-classic movie starring Will Ferrell, Semi-Pro, through a footwear and apparel collection.
Included on the footwear side of things, two colorways of the Fila Grant Hill 2 get dressed in simple shades of "Black" or "White" with accenting shades of the Flint Tropics team colors as well as direct nods to the team itself. Leather acts as the base layer throughout both pairs, coming in the titular shade for each respective colorway while bright orange runs around the edge of the sole and upper. Near the collar, the Flint Tropics name and logo is debossed into the leather, coming in its infamous orange and blue shades. Matching this, the lace set comes in blue while the Fila logo atop the tongue gets both colors in its embroidery. Underfoot, the midsole comes in a blue with a leather overlay matching the primary shade running down the center of the sole. Rounding out the design is the rubber outsole which also comes in the aqua blue shade.
You couldn’t represent the team with just sneakers, so Fila has cooked up matching apparel representing the Jackie Moon-owned team. Featured in the collection, an aqua blue hoodie with co-branded Flint Tropics, Fila, and Semi-Pro branding matches the white and aqua blue shorts that feature similar logos to the hoodie. For a more casual approach, a Jackie Moon-branded t-shirt with his number 33 on the back comes in all white while the graphics take on the aqua blue and orange hues of the Flint Tropics.
The entire Semi-Pro x Fila Collection, including the Fila Grant Hill 2 colorways, is set to release on October 25th, 2022 through Fila and select retailers online and in-store while Foot Locker is expected to drop the set sometime in November. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price for the shoes is set at $128.
