Sneakers and streetwear may have originated in America through a perfect mix of our three greatest cultural exports: basketball, rap music, and skateboarding, but in Japan, they perfected the lifestyle, dedicating as much design reverence to street style as possible. To this day, the streetwear culture in Tokyo puts NYC to shame and continues to influence brands across the globe.
Daikanyama to Back Bay
The Saucony Daikanyama Capsule is the latest lifestyle pack from the brand, stretching halfway across the world for inspiration. The four-pack features colorways of the ProGrid Omni 9, ProGrid Guide 7, Kinvara 1, and Endorphin Speed 5, all taking design details from Tokyo’s most fashionable neighborhood, Daikanyama.

“This collection reflects the understated modernity of the iconic Daikanyama neighborhood in Tokyo,” said Brian Moore, chief product officer at Saucony. “The city's architecture leans brutalist, softened by ivy-covered concrete and weathered steel, where nature weaves through clean lines, creating a balance of industrial edge and quiet beauty; this contrast is exactly where the collection draws from. With aged textures and muted tones, the Daikanyama collection evokes a refined, retro-tech sensibility, inspired by one of Tokyo’s most beloved cultural enclaves and designed by former Tokyo resident Josh Fraser.”
