Salehe Bembury Teases His New Balance 1000 Collaboration

Although Puma has now tapped Salehe Bembury to help design Tyrese Haliburton’s signature logo and potentially his signature sneaker in the future, the multidisciplinary designer still has time to work with other partners in the footwear space. This includes New Balance, which recently tapped Bembury to work on the Made in UK 1500 and 991v2. Next up for the duo is a collaboration on the New Balance 1000.
Initially released in 1999 to little fanfare and then revived in 2024, the New Balance 1000 has become one of NB’s most popular silhouettes. Brand partners worldwide, including atmos, BEAMS, Concepts, Aime Leon Dore, and Joe Freshgoods, have brought their outside influence to the performance-runner-turned-lifestyle staple. Bembury’s teaser for his version of the New Balance 1000 showcases two different designs, pointing to the possibility of multiple colorways from the designer.
The colorways previewed feature a hairy suede and open-spaced mesh combo for their base, while textured leather overlays span the upper. One colorway comes with tan hits on the heel, purple on the overlays, and pops of red on the mesh, while the other features brown, volt green, and blue. Both come with a contrasting ABZORB-cushioned midsole and a tonal rubber outsole. Expect co-branded Salehe and New Balance logos and references to Salehe’s signature design motif — fingerprints — once more images emerge.
Salehe Bembury’s upcoming New Balance 1000 project will release sometime in 2025 through Bembury’s Be A Spunge website, New Balance, and potentially select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be announced.
