Starting his career in 1972 for the now defunct ABA, Julius Erving helped legitimize the secondary professional basketball organization. Being one of the highest scorers in NBA history, it’s no surprise that the fellow 76er was an inspiration to Allen Iverson. With the upcoming release of the Reebok Question Mid “Dr J”, the connection between the two NBA greats grows stronger.
Dressed in white leather through the majority of the sneaker, hints of gold and red provide a nod to the jersey AI wore at the 2002 All-Star game. Gold can be seen on the Reebok branding going down the eyelets as well as the logo on the white mesh tongue. Red is present on the piping around the tongue, Reebok logo on the mid foot and heel tab. In typical Question Mid fashion, Hexalite cushioning is encapsulated by a white rubber midsole accented by a semi-translucent icy blue outsole. Completing the fusion between AI and Dr. J, Iverson's number 3 on the heel is replaced by Dr. J's number 6 and an illustration of AI's iconic '99 SLAM cover is imprinted on the sneaker's insoles.
The Reebok Question Mid Dr. J was originally expected to drop in February around All-Star Weekend. It was pushed back and will now release in July 2022. They will drop at Reebok and select retailers in full-family sizing. Men's pairs will retail for $150.
