2022 saw something not many could have predicted, a Puma Basketball silhouette selling out and garnering massive demand. Well, with the help of LaMelo Ball this was made possible with the MB.01. Countless hit colorways like the “Rick & Morty” collab or the What The-like “Be You” saw Melo’s extravagant playstyle get translated into sneaker form. Now, on the heels of the next NBA season, Puma and LaMelo have a follow-up in the form of the Puma MB.02, appearing in a "Supernova" colorway.
Keeping a similar shape to the original silhouette, the sneaker features similar materials with refinements made to the sole unit and branding details. For this particular colorway, bright bursts of orange take over the engineered mesh while fused overlays on the mudguard, eyestays, and midfoot come in a deep orange-red shade. Matching the sockliner and tongue is a set of bright orange laces, working atop the blue shades that make up Melo’s phoenix logo. Unlike the original sneaker, the wings embroidery gets replaced with fused overlays and stretches horizontally as opposed to vertically, coming in various shades of orange and red on the lateral side while the medial side gets hints of blue throughout. This contrasting shade makes its final mark on the upper thanks to the co-branded Melo and Puma logo back on the spine of the heel and via another phoenix logo. Rounding out the design is the NITRO foam cushioned sole unit, appearing in a peachy orange, paired with a grippy rubber outsole.
The Puma MB.02 Supernova is set to release on October 21st, 2022 through Puma and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
