While not leading the performance basketball market in any category, Puma has found quite the hit with their signing of LaMelo Ball. Through the Puma MB series (which has just reached its second iteration), LaMelo has been able to showcase his vibrant personality and playstyle through his choice of kicks on the court while giving this same feeling to fans across the globe. Although not as vibrant as releases like the “Rick And Morty” collab from earlier in the year, the latest release from Puma and Melo appears in the form of the Puma MB.02 “Black Blue.”
Covered mostly in a black shade across its engineered mesh upper, vibrant blue shades do provide contrast on select branding details and through the sole unit down below. To make the sneaker ready for performance basketball, an engineered mesh is utilized with fused plastic overlays around the toe, eyestays, and midfoot adding reinforcement to the model. The latter of these three reinforcements comes in the form of a phoenix wing along the midfoot, somewhat disguising the Puma formstrip logo on the lateral side and coming in a mixture of blue and black on the medial side. Further branding details can be found via the actual phoenix graphic atop the tongue, LaMelo’s “1 of 1” logo on the vamp, and through a blue phoenix located on the heel overlay. Rounding out the entire design is the NITRO foam cushioned sole unit, which comes mostly in blue, paired with a two-tone black and blue rubber outsole.
The Puma MB.02 Black Blue is set to release on November 23rd, 2022 through Puma and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s and grade school sizing, the retail price is set at $130 and $110 respectively.
