Known as the current sneaker king of the NBA, PJ Tucker can get his hands on just about any sneaker ever made. While keeping ties with his basketball roots, Tucker takes his collaboration with Converse off-court in the form of the classic Pro Leather Hi.
Originally released in 1976, the Converse Pro Leather Hi was an instant hit on-and-off the court. One of the most popular basketball silhouettes of all-time, greats like Dr. J, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and even a young Michael Jordan laced them up until they were discontinued in favor of the Converse StarTech in 1985. While the Converse Pro Leather is more of a lifestyle silhouette these days due to the advancement in footwear technology, it’s legacy will never be forgotten.
As a tribute, PJ Tucker has put his own twist on the classic Pro Leather Hi, dubbed the “Out Tha Mud'' edition. Inspired comes from Tucker growing up in North Carolina and playing basketball in his backyard getting his one pair of kicks per year all muddy and dirty. The sneaker comes in a clean white and grey colorway, sporting an all-white leather upper. Grey hairy suede accents the logo on the sides, heel counter, back heel tab and eyestay.
OTM debossed in metallic gold on the sides represents the “Out Tha Mud'' name while the Carolina Blue branding on the left tongue tag is an ode to UNC, where Tucker always wanted to go to college and Burnt Orange on the right, a nod to the University of Texas where he ended up. A leather liner and aged sole finish things off for PJ Tucker’s Converse Pro Leather Hi.
The PJ Tucker x Converse Pro Leather Hi Out Tha Mud is set to release first on January 22nd, 2022 exclusively at the PJ Tucker x The Better Generation pop-up in Miami. A second drop on January 23rd, 2022 will follow via The Better Generation app. On January 28th, 2022, they will release online at FootLocker.com and Converse.com. Available in men’s sizes 7.5-13, retail is set at $95.
