Patta and Nike are Celebrating 5 Years of Waviness with Two New Air Max 1 Wave Colorways

In a sneaker industry awash in collaborations, it can be hard to tell when an external partner designs a colorway of a classic silhouette without a branded stamp on the heel or the tongue. For Dutch clothing brand Patta’s ongoing Air Max collab, that’s never been a problem. Thanks to the brand’s distinct wavy paneling added to the wrap-around toe of the Air Max 1 and Air Max 90, Patta’s Nike collabs are easy to recognize in the best way.
For the fifth anniversary of Patta’s wavy Nike Air Max collab, the brand is bringing back the wavy Air Max 1 in two new colorways. Debuted in Instagram previews from Patta owners Edson Sabajo and Guillaume 'Gee' Schmidt, the first adds a bright orangish red hyper crimson color to the wavy leather strip on the toe and side panels, covering the rest of the shoe in a mix of grey leather and mesh with a black Swoosh and cream on the laces and midsole.
The second colorway flips the first, saving the crimson color for the side panel Swoosh, and filling in the entire upper with two shades of grey, from the wavy paneling to the mehs and premium leather on the rest of the shoe. The laces and midsole keep the same creamy off-white as the first pair. Adding a personal touch, the pairs were shown with a gold Nike bracelet featuring a charm of the flag of Suriname, representing Sabajo and Schmidt’s home.
