Michael Jordan and Nike revolutionized the footwear and sports marketing landscapes by introducing the Air Jordan 1 in 1985. This iconic sneaker transformed basketball shoe design and established a legacy influencing sneaker culture today. One of the most recognizable elements of the Air Jordan 1 is the Wings logo, yet this emblem was absent from the original prototype. In a nod to this history, Jordan Brand is releasing a Reimagined Black Toe Jordan 1 this year, inspired by the early prototypes featuring Air Jordan text on the collar. Before that release, sports collectors have an extraordinary opportunity to own a piece of sneaker history, as Grey Flannel Auctions is putting up an original prototype of the Air Jordan 1 in the coveted Bred colorway for auction.
The Air Jordan 1 Bred Prototype maintains the classic black and red colorblocking synonymous with Jordan Brand. Unlike the production versions, this prototype features Air Jordan text stamped on the collar instead of the now-famous Wings logo. This rare pair showcases the original 1985 construction, including different leather cuts and dimensions compared to the modern OG cuts. The set includes two shoes split between sizes 13 and 13.5, reflecting the custom sets created specifically for Michael Jordan. This prototype offers a glimpse into the developmental stages of what would become one of the most significant sneakers in history.
Grey Flannel Auctions will auction the Air Jordan 1 Bred Prototype from May 20 to June 9. The minimum bid is $25,000. Check here for the auction page. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
