The fashion industry has not been the same since the passing of Virgil Abloh. The Illinois-born architect-turned-designer skyrocketed his career from being Kanye West’s personal stylist to eventually becoming the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton in less than 20 years, founding his iconic “Off-White” label in between these events. While his passing was a shock to many, his hard work and dedication to his craft meant that the archives are chock full of unreleased designs and collaborations, both through his own label and his Nike partnership. Now early images have emerged of what being reported as the first shoe Abloh designed from scratch with Nike, the Off-White x Nike Air Terra Forma.
Coming in mid-top form, the sneaker seems to be fusing luxury vibes you’d find at LV and running designs Nike is known for. Throughout the upper is a mixture of white leather overlays with grey underlays, accenting the bright blue sockliner and tongue that create a bootie-like fit for the model. Covering the tongue is a black nylon shroud complete with a zipper, though this sits below the grey lace set that hosts the iconic Off-White zip tie. Further OW details come in the form of the translucent Swoosh with an orange tab on its rear found on the lateral side while the medial side brings a mixture of Helvetica font and graffiti-style print to spell out the usual “Off-White For Nike” motif. Underfoot is where the most interesting detail lies, the sole unit. An extra chunky and extended foam features various shades including yellow, blue, purple, green, and fuchsia throughout its wavy design. On the heel, a visible Air unit comes clear while the outsole below beefs things up even more through its spiked traction pattern and "TREAD LIGHTLY" text that is split between both pairs.
The Off-White x Nike Air Terra Forma is set to release at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023 through Nike, Off-White, and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is TBA. Keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the pair's release and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
