Virgil Abloh was a forward-thinking visionary and often paid homage to those who came before him. Rumors had swirled that his Off-White x Nike collaboration on the AF1 was possibly working on a Terror Squad pair (which is set to go minus the Off-White connection), though this never came to be. Another iconic 2000s era Air Force 1 piqued Abloh and co.'s interest that was showcased at his “The Codes” exhibit during Art Basel in December 2022 - a Rasheed Wallace colorway. The infamous NBA player was given his own AF1 and was one of the only players in the modern era to rock the silhouette on the NBA court. Featuring his very own logo embroidered onto the model, Rasheed Wallace’s Air Force 1 gets reworked into an Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid design.
The silhouette keeps the same design language as previous Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mids. Things differ as the model is covered in black patent leather across its upper and features Rasheed Wallace’s logo embroidered onto the heel, mimicking the original Wallace AF1. Tonal white laces contrast the black tongue and secondary set of black laces while we see more hits of this contrasting shade on the Swoosh. On the lockdown strap, we see a white buckle and white “30” embroidered on the end of the belt, an homage to Wallace’s jersey number. Working over to the medial side, we see the classic Helvetica font on almost all Off-White collabs with a slight change. Replacing Nike’s name, the text states, “Off-White For RASHEED.” Other details on OW releases, like the iconic zip tie, remain. Rounding out the design is a wavy AF1 midsole in white paired with a spiked black rubber outsole.
The Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 Mid Sheed Black White will release September 8, 2023 through Off-White, Nike SNKRS, and through select retailers online and in-store.
