The world is still recovering from the Big Red Boot takeover by MSCHF as the viral cartoon-like footwear filled social media feeds and garnered insane prices on the secondary market. Even though many have lauded the hype for these massive, oversized boots that look straight out of Astro Boy, it seems Nintendo may be trying to cash in on some similar hype in the leadup to The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the Japanese mega-brand has teamed up with Red Wing Shoes to bring Mario’s boots to real life.
Using legacy methods and innovative materials, Red Wing crafts the gaming legend’s boots in the real world and they are as exaggerated and cartoon-like as you’d expect. Even with its large and albeit goofy appearance, the material makeup of the model cuts no corners with high-quality leather sourced by Red Wing taking on the same tan appearance you’d find on Mario in any video game or cartoon. Back on the heel pad, you find a tag promoting The Super Mario Bros. Movie that comes embroidered atop a black leather patch. Completing the design is the tonal tan midsole and rubber outsole.
The Nintendo x Red Wing Shoes Mario Boots will not be seeing a public release, however, the shoes are on display at the Nintendo Store in NYC to help promote the release of the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
