The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 has an Expiration Date

Updated on Published

In the ever-evolving world of athletic footwear, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 has returned triumphantly, capturing the hearts of sneaker enthusiasts and the general public. With its rich history, distinctive design, and advanced features, this iconic silhouette has reemerged on the scene, reminding us of its enduring popularity. But with all the hype, an expiration date comes with it. Before we get into that, let's discuss the current reign of the Vomero 5.

Initially released in 2010, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 was one of the best-running sneakers on the market. The fifth in the Vomero series, its upper is built from synthetic leather and mesh, providing durability and breathability. The plastic caging on the side offers support, while ventilation ports on the heel keep the shoe airy. Zoom Air cushioning combined with a foam midsole and solid rubber outsole for a durable, responsive ride makes the Vomero 5 one of the best options, whether you're a runner or casual wearer.

After nearly a 10 year hiatus, Nike's Sportswear division brought the Zoom Vomero 5 for a brief stint back in 2019 and 2020. Looking to capitalize on the dad shoe trend, 2022 marked the full resurrection of the Nike's retro runner. The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 filled a hole left behind by the demise of the Yeezy line and an alternative to New Balance's rise in popularity. Initial colorways were limited, selling out instantly. This trend continued well into 2023, even with the number of releases increasing. One thing Nike has done well with this silhouette is not oversaturating it. Making it available but only at some retailers helps keep the Vomero hype in the streets.

But like most silhouettes, with the Nike Dunk being a prime example, the Vomero 5 is set to take over the latter part of 2023 with a broader distribution making it readily available for the first time since its return. Expect to see the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 available at all types of retailers, from mom and pop's to NBHD accounts to major chain stores. It is giving everyone a fair share at the Vomero 5 before it goes back into the vault. Yes, you read that right; Nike has already planned to take the sneaker off the shelves and back into hibernation. This new tactic is being done to preserve the silhouette without bleeding it dry to where people will no longer care about it.

That said, the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 has an expiration date. Insiders shared that the tentative plan is to phase out the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 and begin pushing the Nike Pegasus 05 come Summer 2024. While this is the current plan, Nike could always extend this. If you are a fan of the Vomero and have been holding out on certain styles, don't wait too long.

The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 will continue to release through Spring 2024. They will be available via Nike, SNKRS, and select NSW retailers. Coming in men's and women's, retail is set at $160.
