The latest Nike Zoom Freak 5 Nigerian Nightmare colorway pays homage to the NBA All-Stars' ascension to an elite Nigerian athlete. In a recent interview Nigerian UFC Welterweight, Kamaru Usman, who is often referred to as the "Nigerian Nightmare" said that, "Giannis is the Nigerian Nightmare in basketball right now." on the Thanalisis podcast.
The Nike Zoom Freak 5 Nigerian Nightmare is covered in geode teal synthetic leather and paired with purple ink mesh-like materials. A light green suede Nike Swoosh swoops through the sneaker's heel extending through the silhouette's midfoot. The sneaker's upper sits atop of an ink purple phylon midsole with total orange speckled accents. For added performance, a Nike Zoom Air unit has been added to the forefoot and the sneaker features a two traction patterned outsole. Putting the finishing touches on this Zoom Freak 5 is Antetokounmpo's signature "A" logo embroidered in total orange into the sneaker's tongue.
