Back in 2022, Nike filed a lawsuit against resale platform StockX over the latter’s Vault NFT program, for "selling unauthorized images of Nike shoes.” Over time, the case would delve deep into StockX’s authentication process and accuse the platform of peddling counterfeit Nike sneakers. However, the two brands have reached a settlement to resolve the case.

Unfortunately for us, the details of the settlement between StockX and Nike will remain confidential, but it puts an end to the three-and-a-half-year legal saga. Back in November 2024, Nike sought a pre-trial win with claims that StockX was selling counterfeit Nike products and guilty of false advertising. The Swoosh would even state in court docs that StockX is “a global safe haven for counterfeiters to sell unknown numbers of fake ‘Nike’ footwear.”

Nike inspected sneakers from a sneakerhead by the name of Roy Kim, who purchased 60 pairs on StockX, and found that 38 of them were fake. However, the Detroit-based resale platform would fire back, providing a statement to Sole Retriever, “The products in question in this case amount to a mere 0.0004% of the 17.8 million Nike sneakers StockX reviewed while this litigation was ongoing. Compare that to the more than $80,000,000 of suspected counterfeit sneakers alone that StockX has prevented from being sold on our platform.”

StockX and Nike would file a dismissal on August 29, stating “All claims in the above-captioned action be dismissed with prejudice.” Essentially, this means the case cannot be refiled. In a statement provided to Sole Retriever back in 2024, StockX claimed “Nike ha[d] previously recommended StockX to its customers, partnered with StockX, and praised StockX as ‘a good actor.’” Perhaps now, the relationship with Nike and StockX can be mended to what it was prior to the lawsuit.
