At its core, Nike is a running company. Sure, The Swoosh has hit virtually all corners of the footwear and sports market, and things seemed a bit dire for a few years as competitors like On and HOKA ate up market share, but you can never count Nike out. The running department at Nike has been reinvigorated, using this outside pressure to fuel the latest advancements in the performance running category, creating hit models like the Pegasus Premium and Vomero Premium. Next up from Nike Running is the Pegasus 42.
Starting in 1982, the Pegasus running line has been one of The Swoosh’s flagship series, and Nike’s latest entry in the standard Peg is its most powerful and advanced yet. As is the case with most base Pegasus sneakers, Nike honed in on the perfect mix of cushioning and responsiveness for a sneaker that can be worn by consumers at all levels.

The upper is constructed of a double-layered mesh that is heat-mapped for breathability and protection. Inside, a combo of full-length Air Zoom and ReactX foam allows for 15% greater energy return when compared to its predecessor. To help with fit and forefoot cushioning, Nike modified the last of the Pegasus 42, incorporating an innovative spring structure that accommodates an additional 3 mm of cushioning without impacting the stack height.
“We’ve taken what runners have always loved about the Pegasus franchise and turned it into the best version yet with the Pegasus 42,” says Elliott Heath, senior footwear expert, Nike Running. “This shoe provides a balance of consistent elements that look and feel connected to its legacy, coupled with new innovation to make it even more iconic, in a Nike-only way.”
The Nike Pegasus 42 will debut on April 9, 2026 via Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s and women’s sizing, the retail price is set at $145.
