When Vanessa Bryant announced that the University of Kentucky would become the first school to join the Nike Mamba Program, many people began to speculate who would follow suit. Shortly after, Vanessa declared that Duke, LSU, Oregon, UCONN, and USC would join Kentucky as the inaugural Nike Kobe Brand universities. With this announcement, expect all schools in the Nike Mamba Program to be outfitted with Nike Kobe gear in the future.
With the 2023-24 NCAA season in full effect, Nike has continued to bless their sponsored schools in various footwear like the LeBron 21, Sabrina 1, and Freak 5. In addition, some have even got their own Kobe 8s, including Duke and now UCONN. Dressed in an Away theme, the latest Nike Kobe 8 Protro UCONN PE comes in a Husky-esque midnight navy, white, and varsity red.
Midnight Navy covers the majority of the upper, accented by white. These hits of white are found on the Swoosh on the sides, heel, lining, and laces. A dash of red is on the Kobe logos on the right shoe's tongue, bottom of the outsole, and back heel. UCONN's logo is featured on the tongue of the left shoe, furthering the personalized pair. The look is complete with a drop-in React cushioned insole, blue midsole, and solid white rubber outsole.
