The Lakers’ most famous draft day move didn’t come on the big board. Instead, the 1996 move that brought Kobe Bryant to Los Angeles resulted from a trade with the Charlotte Hornets, who picked the fresh-from-high school Mamba with the 13th pick. For its latest collection of Nike Kobe 4s, The Swoosh is bringing it back 30 years to draft day ‘96, releasing a blind box collection of white colorways with accents from all the teams that skipped on Bryant, plus the Hornets.

Draft Day Luck for the Lakers

Now, thanks to Jacques Slade, we’ve got a look at the last pair in the blind box collection, a gold Lakers colorway that serves as the rare pull in the card-style collectible drop. We first saw images of the Lakers-themed Kobe 4 Protro last month, and in new images of the complete collection, where the gold pair stands out from the rest of the white Draft Day Pack.

Featuring a full coat of Lakers’ gold on the upper, the pair adds purple to the Kobe sheath logo, the 24 and 8 jersey hits on the heels, and a gold and purple swirl on the outsole. Just like the rest of the Draft Day collection, the pair adds a 13th pick decal on the back of the tongue.

Nike Kobe 4 Protro Lakers Release Details

The Nike Kobe 4 Protro Lakers will be released in the coming weeks through Nike and select retailers in-store and online. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at $190.
