Nike is doing its best to keep Kobe’s legacy alive, and judging by the continued popularity of the Mamba’s sneaker line, The Swoosh doesn’t need to do much beyond dropping continued runs of Protro pairs. As the Kobe line continues to add new Protro colorways to the collection, the latest numbered pair added to the pack is bringing the line’s 10th shoe out of retirement.
Kobe’s 10th Shoe Gets a Protro Update
The Nike Kobe 10 Protro 5AM Flight is the second pair from Beaverton’s Nike 10 Protro collection, following up on the Halo release on Kobe’s birthday. First debuting in 2015 with the launch of the Nike Kobe 10, the colorway is a shoutout to the 40-foot high dive Kobe posted on Vine during the late stages of his recovery from ankle surgery.
For its Protro return, the 5AM Flight colorway keeps the same pool-blue shades rippling across the upper, with black on the Swoosh and heelside signature branding, and a splash of pink on the tongue logos. Beyond the blue upper, a nearly translucent blue shade is added to the midsole for even more cold water energy, with four embroidered stitches on the heel.
As for the Protro upgrades, Nike has widened the toebox of the silhouette for more comfort. There’s also the removal of the Lunarlon and Air Zoom cushioning for more modern technology, including Cushlon 3.0 and full-length Zoom Strobel, as well as a redesigned engineered mesh upper for more breathability.
