Nike Made 18 Pairs of This Nike KD 18 Inspired by Kevin Durant’s Rookie Card

Fanatics Fest wrapped up over the weekend, full of highlight moments for sneakers. On display was a wall full of every Travis Scott collaboration with Nike and Jordan Brand. DJ Khaled got the rare Miami Dolphins Air Jordan 11 sample signed by Dan Marino; Easy Otabor rocked the Infinite Archives x Air Jordan 17 Low Chicago, and much more. Revealed on the day after the event ended is a special pair of Nike KD 18s, limited to just 18 pairs, inspired by Kevin Durant’s rookie card.
Posted by photographer Riccardo Mestre (though you may recognize his online handle uninstructedvision), the sneaker features a Seattle Supersonics color scheme that directly draws from the uni worn by KD in the photo of his rookie card.
The base layer features a canvas material and an acid-washed tie-dye finish in green and yellow, while the piping of the Air Terra Humara-inspired midfoot cage continues the green hues. More green is found on the KD branding atop the tongue, the Swoosh logo on the collar, and the inside of the tongue, which features the date 6/28/2007 embroidered.
What is the reason this date is featured on the pair? It’s the day of the 2007 NBA Draft when KD was selected second overall by the Seattle Supersonics, who only a year later would relocate to Oklahoma City and become the Thunder. Durant would win the Rookie of the Year award that season, with the achievement commemorated on the insole. An added hangtag featuring KD and Rookie of the Year text denotes that the pair is limited to 18 units.
Only 18 pairs of the Nike KD 18 Rookie of the Year were made exclusively for Fanatic Fest, though exactly who received the pairs is a mystery at this time.
