Nike Golf Remembers the Case of the Missing Wanamaker Trophy for 2026 PGA Championship

You’ve probably heard the stories of how the Stanley Cup, the NHL’s championship trophy, has been lost, abused, and used for all kinds of other purposes throughout its illustrious history, but did you know the PGA also lost its championship trophy back in the 1920s? To celebrate the upcoming PGA Championship this May, Nike Golf is dropping a pack of golf shoes that commemorate the time the Wanamaker Trophy was lost for half a decade.

The story goes that after winning the PGA Championship in 1925, Walter Hagen gave the 27-pound trophy to a cab driver to take to his hotel, but it never arrived. It was Hagen’s second straight title, and he would go on to win the PGA Championship again in 1926 and 1927, marking a record four-peat that still stands today. However, he never brought the trophy back.

Luckily, the PGA had made a duplicate in 1926. In 1928, when asked by PGA officials about the original trophy, he remarked, “I will win it anyway, so I didn’t bring it.” After losing to Leo Diegel, Hagen had to admit that he had lost the trophy. By “luck,” Hagen found the trophy in 1930 by going through some old trunks in the basement of the company that made his equipment, and shipped the original back to the PGA.

As for the shoes, Nike Golf has used the Nike Air Max 95 Golf, the Nike Pegasus 1 Golf, and the Nike Victory Pro 4 as canvases for this story. So far, we only have images of the Victory Pro 4 and Air Max 95 Golf, but both use white uppers and hot lava-shaded midsoles. On the 95, the wavy panels are done in a “woven” finish, with the lowest panel getting debossed floral graphics.

The words “Lost” and “Found” are placed on the left and right tongues of both shoes, respectively, while the insole features the same branding. Here, you can see the “Lost” logo sitting with a trophy on a cab on the left insole, while the right insole features the trophy and a Nike Swoosh with the word “Found.” These two words are also found on the outsole of both shoes.

The Nike Golf PGA Championship 2026 Pack will be released Summer 2026, likely in May for the event, through Nike and select retailers. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $230 for the 95, $190 for the Pegasus 1, and $180 for the Victory Pro 4.
