Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a traditional Mexican holiday that celebrates and remembers the lives of those who've passed away. Over the years, Nike has been prominent in its tribute to various global cultures, and the Latin community holds a special place in its endeavors. After last year's memorable Familia collection that paid homage to the vibrant Latin community, Nike is back with another collection celebrating the iconic Día De Muertos. This year's centerpiece is the women's exclusive Nike Dunk Low, launching alongside the already-revealed Air Jordan 1 High Zoom CMFT 2.
With a blend of carefully curated materials like faux reptile skin, supple suede, textured leather, and nylon, this Dunk Low exudes elegance and attention to detail. Glistening shades of gold adorn the toebox, quarter panel, and collar. The subtle luxury of the faded gold faux reptile skin on the mudguard and eyestays contrasts the understated cream laces and the rich black tongue. A highlight is the intricately embroidered hummingbird in vibrant hues of teal and orange on the textured leather heel overlay — a significant symbol in the celebration of Día De Muertos. The insole proudly displays motifs reminiscent of the holiday: Nike's Familia logo on the left and the hummingbird on the right, echoing the celebrations of family and life. The classic white Dunk midsole is complemented by a durable gum rubber outsole, finishing the ensemble.
The Nike Dunk Low Día De Los Muertos W will release October 21, 2023, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available exclusively in women’s sizing, the retail price is set at $125.
