As springtime approaches in Japan, the country celebrates its Setsubun festival. Originating in China during the 8th century, the festival is used to ward off demons by throwing soybeans around shrines, temples and households nationwide. Though a Dunk Low commemorating the festival has already been revealed, we are now getting a look at a women's exclusive Nike Dunk High Up, also a part of the festivities.
While sharing DNA from a standard Dunk High, the Nike Dunk High Up variation features a raised midsole, premium materials, extended tongue and enlarged tooling. This Setsubun-inspired colorway is made up of premium suede and leather. The cream colored perforated toe box is surrounded by an orange haze suede mudguard. Going up the red eyelets, deep purple flat laces work their way to a gold Nike branded tongue tag.
More Nike branding is seen along the mid foot with a purple leather Nike Swoosh housing a mini embroidered gold Swoosh. Covering the backside of this Swoosh, the orange haze suede makes another appearance atop a green layered overlay. Setsubun motifs make their appearance on an embroidered demon along the heel overlay and through the painting of the Seven Lucky Gods Of Play printed on the insoles. Finishing up the look is the stacked foam midsole in cream, complemented by a gum rubber outsole.
The Nike Dunk High Up Setsubun W is scheduled to release exclusively in Japan through Nike and local retailers on January 29th. Retailing for $160, these will be available in women's sizing.
