A’ja Wilson stepped into rarified air over the weekend. The Aces closed out the Seattle Storm in a one-point barn burner on Thursday, and on Friday, WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert and Wilson’s boyfriend, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo, surprised Wilson with her record-setting fourth WNBA MVP trophy.
Wilson has been a singular force in the WNBA for years, stacking a trophy room with back-to-back WNBA titles in 2022 and ‘23, three Defensive Player of the Year wins, seven All-Star selections, and much, much more. After spending the year tied with Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, and Lauren Jackson with three career MVP awards, Wilson has now stepped into a category of her own. "There's no Mount Rushmore," Aces coach Becky Hammon said she told Wilson after the MVP announcement, according to ESPN. "You are the only one. You're Everest."
Nike has already been showing out with new A’Ones in Aces black and silver and gold medal colorways, and a second signature shoe on the way, but a historic award calls for a special release. The Swoosh immediately got to work on a new t-shirt honoring the achievement. The A’ja Wilson Nike WNBA 2025 Most Valuable Player T-Shirt features a photo of Wilson holding a ball, mean-mugging the camera with a grill in, above the tagline “Counted Out. Crowned Anyway. 4x MVP.” Nike is expected to release the graphic tee in the coming days for $45. Wilson and the Aces ran into a red-hot Kelsey Mitchell and fell to the Indiana Fever in Game 1 of their second-round series Sunday, but Wilson is no stranger to a comeback, and we would never count her out. Just look at the shirt.
