Unseen Nike Air Yeezy 2 Metallic Silver Sample Appears Online

The artist formerly known as Kanye West’s time with Nike from 2008 to 2013 saw the multi-hyphenate release two signature models, the Air Yeezy 1 and Air Yeezy 2, each having dozens and dozens of samples that would appear in the public eye in one way or another. There’s the iconic Grammy Sample that he wore during his heartfelt performance of Hey Mama at the 2008 Grammy Awards, the Oreo Air Yeezy 2 found in a Nike lookbook, or the famous Kobe-inspired Cheetah Air Yeezy 2 (which, of course, PJ Tucker has). The list could go on for days, but a pair that has never fully been showcased has finally made its way online.

Technically, this Metallic Silver Nike Air Yeezy 2 was spotted years back in the same photo as the Oreo colorway, though the picture only really reveals the metallic silver perforated leather toebox. Thanks to sneaker sample seller depeche23mode, we now have detailed images of the pair.

As mentioned, the perforated leather toebox has a metallic silver finish, while the faux reptile skin leather panel and ribbed heel are coated in white hues. The lockdown strap follows suit with this creamy white shade, while the laces, sockliner, and tongue come in a more true white shade. Ancient Egyptian-inspired details remain, like the hieroglyphics under the velcro strap and the Egyptian god Horus on the tongue. Other features common on Air Yeezy 2s are the metallic gold lace aglets and glow-in-the-dark outsole, both found on this sample.

Obviously, being so far removed from the Air Yeezy era and with Ye’s current standing in the fashion industry, we will likely never see a Nike Air Yeezy retro in the future. Still, it’s great to get a look at the past and the creative process the Air Yeezy 2 underwent before Ye’s send-off with the iconic Red October colorway.
