Back in the early '70s, Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman hit something of a rut. While Nike was proving quite popular amongst college athletes, the question remained of how they were going to take the brand to next level. As if out of nowhere, NASA aerospace engineer Marion Frank Rudy approached the Beaverton company with the idea of fitting an “airbag” onto a shoe. While Knight thought that this was ridiculous to begin with, the concept started growing on him. After much trial and error they invented Air, and over forty years later, it's still considered to be one of the most iconic sneaker technologies of all-time. To pay tribute to this innovation, the Swoosh has revealed the Nike Air Max TW "Pressure" - and here's everything that we know so far.
One of the latest instalments in the Tailwind series, the Air Max TW boasts a crisp summit white mesh base with chevron details across the laterals and medials. Sesame suede overlays wrap around the upper for a premium look and feel, while light photo blue leather dresses the tongue. Underfoot, the chunky midsole is equipped with lemon wash Air bubbles, and the Air Max TW comes with a special edition barometer-inspired keychain which nods to the tool used to measure air pressure. Blueprint graphics feature across the custom insoles as a nod to Marion Frank Rudy's original sketches, and it's finished off with Nike's Pinwheel logo around the heel, finalizing the design.
Dropping alongside other silhouettes like the Air Max 90, the Air Max 97, and the Air VaporMax 2021, the Nike Air Max TW Pressure Summit White releases on March 9th, 2023. Coming in men's sizes with a retail price of $170, they'll be available at Nike, the SNKRS app, and select retailers worldwide.
