The Nike Air Max Plus, a silhouette that revolutionized sneaker design upon its debut in 1998, is set to receive a contemporary makeover with the upcoming release of the Air Max Plus Drift. Celebrating over two decades of iconic status, including a 25th-anniversary milestone in 2023, the Air Max Plus has consistently been a canvas for innovation and style. Designed by Sean McDowell and initially launched as a Foot Locker exclusive, the Air Max Plus is a mainstay in Nike's lineup, renowned for its distinctive aesthetics and comfort.
The Air Max Plus Drift represents a bold evolution of the original design and was initially leaked by Complex’s Brendan Dunne. This new variant showcases an imaginative reinterpretation of the Air Max Plus's classic elements. The Phantom Cacao Wow colorway introduces an intriguing mix of colors and textures. The sneaker features a mesh base adorned with a striking gradient pattern that transitions from red to silver to blue. Brown and phantom hues complement this vivid backdrop on the thicker palm tree-inspired TPU overlays.
A notable design shift in the Air Max Plus Drift is the relocation of the iconic Nike Swoosh. Departing from its traditional midfoot placement, the Swoosh finds a new home on the lateral heel, adding a fresh twist to the silhouette's aesthetic. The sneaker retains key elements of the original Air Max Plus, including the Tuned Air branding on the insole and heel, paying homage to its heritage while embracing modernity. Below sits a slightly reworked sole with visible Max Air units in the forefoot and heel, delivering the exceptional cushioning and support that the Air Max series is known for. The design is completed with a gum rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max Plus Drift Phantom Cacao Wow is currently slated to release on February 15, 2024. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $185. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app for the latest updates on sneaker releases, raffles, and news.
