Designed by Tinker Hatfield in the late 80s, the Air Max 1 spawned an entire line that has quite the cult following. This eventually led to it getting its own holiday. Every March 26th the Swoosh celebrates Air Max Day with special releases and retros of classic colorways. Arriving just in time for the holiday, the Nike Air Max 97 SE “Sport Turbo” is a thoughtful tribute to the 35 years of Air Max designs.
Coming dressed in shades of black, sport turquoise and summit white, denim and corduroy play a large part in the construction. While the base of the silhouette uses standard mesh, it also features overlays of black denim. white and turquoise corduroy make up the mudguard and ripple design across the upper. Black 3M coated ripples run along the lateral and medial sides of the silhouette, positioned beside the rope laces and mesh tongue. Details around the sneaker nod to the 35th Anniversary of the Air Max line with “XXXV” stitched onto the mudguard in turquoise and an insole imprint featuring the same Roman numerals. Rounding out the look is a white midsole with visible turquoise Max Air cushioning, paired to a black and white rubber outsole.
